PRESS RELEASE
The FAIRVIEW JR.-SR. HIGH SCHOOL REUNION CORPORATION continued its celebration of the 10th Reunion with
a Banquet that was held at 7:00 pm on July 2, 2011, at the Fairview Community Center. The Reunion theme was "Building
On a Legacy". Approximately one hundred sixty-five individuals were in attendance.
Mrs. Verlene Norman-Houston, from Dallas Texas, served as the Toastmistress for the evening. She provided much
entertainment and humor as she moved the program from beginning to end.
Mrs. Bobbie Harper welcomed the audience and Clark Warren provided the invocation.
Rayford Stephens, President of the Houston Chapter of the Fairview Reunion Corporation, introduced Ada Lockett-McPhaul,
the Speaker for the evening. Ms. McPhaul chose to speak on the topic "Remember, Reflect and Renew" as she
told the story of the history of Fairview School from its inception to the current time and entwined that into the
Reunion theme, "Building on a Legacy".
Mrs.
Frances Allen, President of the Corporation, Mack Edward Davis, President of Dallas Chapter and Rayford Stephens each gave
a scholarship to a worthy High School Senior. Also, Mr. Davis presented Azell Love, Louis Hurst and James Warren with
awards for outstanding service to the Dallas Chapter. Mr. Stephens presented a service award to Benny Lockett for his
outstanding work and tenure in the Houston Chapter. In turn, Benny Lockett also presented to Rayford Stephens an Award
of Service from the Houston Chapter. Mrs. Allen presented gifts to Vera Allen, the Reunion Finance Coordinator, and
to Darryl Allen, the Reunion Event Coordinator. A service award was presented to Lindell Harrison-Steens for her work
as Treasurer for the Corporation. President Allen also awarded a gift to Ada McPhaul for her service.
Mrs. Helen Stephens-Cooper recognized the classes of 1963 and 1968 for having the greatest
number of students in attendance. They were each given a rose.
Mrs. Lee Anna Mack was recognized as the oldest individual in attendance. She was given a gift and flowers.
The program ended with The Lord's Prayer, a musical selection from one of Sandi
Patty's albums.
Bobbie Harper served as the Chairperson of the
Decoration Committee. The Center was adorned in royal purple with touches of gold. Each table was dressed with
lighted purple candles, encased in glass holders set on mirrors.

Express from Marshall, Texas catered the affair.
